Why “Haven”?

haven-

  1. a safe place or refuge

  2. a place offering favorable opportunities or conditions…

It is important for students to feel safe to take risks when working on improving their reading and writing. Students who have previously experienced embarrassment or ridicule quickly realize Haven is a space to “try again” without fear of making mistakes- and their confidence grows right along with their skills!

Meet Jen.

Jen Cote, M.Ed., created Haven Early Reading Options LLC. because she believes that there are few things as rewarding as watching a child’s face light up when they read something independently for the first time. A certified teacher, she has experience working with students from preschool through ninth grade in public, homeschool, and private school settings. She is Associate level Orton-Gillingham trained through Kildonan Teacher Training Institute (KTTI), and has completed extensive additional trainings through the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE), Literacyhow, and Slant System. She is also certified as a Slant System Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher.

Jen started her schooling as a “struggling reader” and received pull-out support from a reading teacher when she was in first grade.

Today, she eagerly engages in professional development opportunities to uncover additional ways to help her students grow as readers and writers.

When she isn’t at Haven, you can find her at home with her husband, kids, and pets.

She’ll probably be reading.

Jen’s father found reading difficult too. Did you know dyslexia often runs in families?
